Why Have Player Rankings?

In the Singles and Team Events at ACS and CCS Championships, there are different Divisions based on Skill Level:

A – Advanced
B – Open
C – Standard

  • By ranking Players and Teams and restricting the Division that they can play in, this provides everyone a better chance in competing and enjoying success.

  • How Do Player Rankings Get Assigned?

  • The approach taken by the ACS and CCS is to base every player's ranking on their actual performance at previous ACS or CCS Championships.

  • Based on how a player does in successive tournaments, a player's ranking may automatically go up or down.

  • For the first ever tournament attended, every player or team starts on the bottom rung unless assigned otherwise based on 'KA - Known Ability'.

  • 1. ACS and CCS Performance Rankings

  • All Players are assigned a Performance Ranking immediately after every 8Ball Singles or 8Ball Team Event of any CCS or ACS Championship as follows:

  • 8Ball SINGLES

    M Masters
    Top 12% of A-Advanced Finals

    A ADVANCED
    Top 12% of B-Open Finals
Made $ but not in top 12% in A-Advanced Finals
Top 1 of B-Open Qualifying (CCS only)

    B OPEN
    Top 12% of C-Standard Finals
Made $ but not in top 12% in B-Open Finals
Made no $ in A-Advanced Finals
Top 1 of C-Standard Qualifying (CCS only)

    C STANDARD
Not in Top 12% of C-Standard Finals
Made no $ in B-Open Finals

    8Ball TEAM

    A ADVANCED
    Top 12% of B-Open Finals
    Made $ in A-Advanced Finals
Top 1 of B-Open Qualifying (CCS only)

    B OPEN
    Top 12% of C-Standard Finals
Made $ but not in top 12% in B-Open Finals
Made no $ in A-Advanced Finals
Top 1 of C-Standard Qualifying (CCS only)

    C STANDARD
Not in Top 12% of C-Standard Finals
Made no $ in B-Open Finals

    2. ACS and CCS Player Rankings

  • The Performance Rankings are then used to assign two player rankings to each player, one for Team play and one for Singles play that will apply in future Championships.

  • A PLAYER'S 'TEAM' RANKING

Will consist of the highest of the Player's last 2 Performance Rankings in both 8Ball Singles and 8ball Team Events since 2005 in any CCS or ACS Championship.

A Player's 'TEAM' RANKING may not be lower than their 'SINGLES' RANKING.

    A PLAYER'S 'SINGLES' RANKING

Will consist of the highest of the Player's last 2 Performance Rankings in 8Ball Singles Events only since 2005 in any CCS or ACS Championship.

A Player's 'SINGLES' RANKING may not be more than one level lower than their 'TEAM' RANKING.

    3. ACS and CCS Professional and Master Players

  • Any player who is on the NE – ACS Professional List. are not eligible to compete in any ACS or CCS Championship.

  • Players who have achieved the M Masters ranking will stay at that ranking until they have successfully petitioned through ACS or CCS to be moved down to a lower ranking.

  • 4. KA - Known Ability

  • The ACS and CCS reserves the right to assign or change any Player Ranking based on KA – Known Ability.

  • A 'U - Unranked Player' will be considered a 'C - Standard Player' unless ranked higher on KA - Known Ability.

  • How Are The Player Rankings Used?

    Singles Event

  • The 'SINGLES' player ranking of either A Advanced, B Open or C Standard assigned to a player will directly determine the lowest Division of Singles that the Player is eligible to compete in.

  • An M Master ranked player must play in the Advanced Division.

  • A player may enter a Division higher than their ranking if they want to.

    Team Event

  • The 'TEAM' player ranking of either A Advanced, B Open or C Standard assigned to each of the Players on the Team Roster will determine an overall Team Ranking of either A Advanced, B Open or C Standard which in turn will directly determine the lowest Division that the Team is eligible to play in, as follows:

    A Advanced Division
2 or more Players are A Advanced or M Master 'TEAM' ranked

    B Open Division
No more than 1 Player is A Advanced or M Master 'TEAM' ranked
2 or more Players are B Open 'TEAM' ranked

    C Standard Division
    All other

  • A team may enter a higher Division than their ranking if they want to.

    Scotch Doubles Event
  • If one or more of the Players are A Advanced or M Master ranked, the entry must play in the A Advanced Division.

  • All others are eligible to play in the B Open Division.

  • A team may enter a higher Division than their ranking if they want to.
