2007 CCS Western 8 Ball Championship Results

Goodfellas and Killer B’s On A Roll

Report by Ted Harms - Canadian Cue Sport Productions

The 5th Annual Western Canadian 8 Ball Championships were held Apr 25-29th at the Acadia Recreation Centre in Calgary AB. A new year and new Champions in every Event. Special congratulations to the Juniors who had a Singles Event for the first time.

Mens Team
In the Mens A – Advanced, it was the Goodfellas (Captain – Barry Hooey, Danny Gilbert, Matt Woolstencroft, Josh Silva and Chris Harms) from Calgary AB, who followed up winning the 2007 BC Title in February with also winning the 2007 Westerns. They once again managed to get the best of their perennial rival, the formidable Team Spain OLA (Captain – Mike Burton, Jeremy Smith, Pete Sky, Kevin Beavis, Mark Vinogradov and Dwayne Bjornstad) also from Calgary AB and last year’s Western Champions. They’ll both be at the 2007 Canadians for what will be a rubber match for these two great Teams.
The Mens B Open was won by Team Tips of Calgary AB over XLR8 from Victoria BC and the C Standard was won by the Hooligans from Regina SK over Who’s on 3rd from Medicine Hat AB.

Womens Team
In the Women’s A – Advanced, it was the Killer B’s (Captain Maryann McConnell, Janice Stroman, Michelle Gamble and Andrea Wilson) of Nanaimo BC who also proved their Title in the 2007 BC Championships (twice now) was no fluke. In the Finals, they bested the team of Good To Go (Captain Mary Rayner, Kara Leonard, Marilee Watson, Brenda Ouellette and Aurora Burdeyney) of Calgary AB to also take the 2007 Westerns Title.
The Womens B Open was won by Aged To Perfection of Calgary AB over Venus Envy from Burnaby BC.

Mens Singles
In the Men’s A – Advanced, it was two of Canada’s very best players squaring off with Tyler Edey besting Edwin Montal to take the 2007 Title.
The B Open was won by Desmond Barry of New Westmister BC over Lake McKay of Victoria BC and the C Standard was won by Kristin Dutchak from Regina SK over Eugene Cardinal from Kehiwin AB.

Womens Singles
In the Women’s A – Advanced, it was Andrea Wilson of Victoria BC who managed to win out over her long time rival and teammate, Maryann McConnell of Port Alberni BC.
The B Open was won by Lynn Worrell of Saskatoon SK over Toni Reesor of Walsh AB.

Junior Singles
Their enthusiasm was incredible and so was their play. The 18&Under was won by Trevor Bolland over Mike Dugan and the 14&Under was won by Justin Beavis over Alexander Andreychuk.
